Our Johnson River Barramundi Camp represents a totally remote outback fishing adventure. This very comfortable, fully equipped and extremely isolated fishing camp is situated in the pristine upper reaches of the mighty Johnson River on the north east coast of Melville Island ….a 30 minute/100 km charter flight from Darwin.

The Camp is owned and operated by the Melville Island Lodge team and caters for fishermen of all levels seeking a totally remote, yet comfortable, fully guided sport-fishing adventure.

Through our exclusive lease with traditional Melville Island land owners, we provide our clients with a professionally operated, high quality and totally relaxing fishing holiday situated in a spectacular and pristine wilderness environment. Areas we fish from the Johnson Camp include the Johnson and neighboring JessIe Rivers, Robinson Inlet and a wide variety of smaller coastal creeks and inlets. Add to this a virtually untouched range of coastal and off-shore fishing options, and it's easy to understand why the waters surrounding the Johnson River Barramundi Camp truly are an anglers paradise.

Barramundi are our most dominant and prized fish, but, there’s a lot more to fishing at the Johnson River Camp than barramundi. Other species prolific in our river systems include mangrove jacks, threadfin and blue salmon, fingermark, tarpon and estuary cod. Plus, off-shore we have spanish mackerel, black jewfish, golden snapper, queenfish, giant trevally, coral trout, long tail tuna and many other species. All-in-all we've so far counted 30 species of quality fish in our waters and we regularly encounter them all in good numbers and sizes.

Accommodation and fishing trips at the Camp are restricted to 9 guests with very comfortable cabin accommodation on a twin or triple-share basis. But, being far away from it all doesn't mean you have to rough it, because all cabins are air-conditioned with ceiling fans and king single beds. Plus, we have hot showers, flushing toilets, fabulous food, a great bar….and lots of other creature comforts you'd never-ever expect to find in such a highly remote fishing environment.

Our all-inclusive packages range from 4 day trips staying at our Johnson River Barramundi Camp through to extended fishing safaris that can also include accommodation and fishing at Melville Lodge, thus providing sport-fishing access to five magnificent and unspoiled river systems, plus a virtually untouched range of coastal and off-shore fishing destinations.
